A conversation with Dr. John Frederick, M.D. Facial Rejuvenation Expert

By Madison Bulloch

The pursuit of youth and beauty is a tale as old as time, yet the modern world has seen a surge in facial plastic surgeries, aiming not just to turn back the clock but to refine and enhance.

Dr. John Frederick, affiliated with the Nassif MD clinic — famed for its feature on the E! series "Botched" — is a celebrated facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon upholding the rigorous standards of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. His ascent from medical school in Alabama to a prestigious fellowship under Dr. Paul Nassif and induction into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society marks his excellence in the field.

His interest in facial plastics sparked from a medical school lecture, leading to a mentorship under Eben Rosenthal M.D. Dr. Frederick recalls, "It was on the anatomy of the head and neck, so you got to see a lot of cool anatomy. And he's got a research lab, which I really love."

Dr. Frederick focuses on comprehensive facial rejuvenation, emphasizing facial harmony and a subtle, natural aesthetic in procedures like face lifts, neck lifts, eyelid rejuvenation, and rhinoplasty. His approach addresses both the skin and the deep supporting structures of the face and neck.

Dr. Frederick advises those considering surgery to prioritize education and self-reflection, cautioning against the sway of social media and celebrity trends. He adds, "If the motivation behind cosmetic surgery is to appease others or conform to external standards, rather than personal satisfaction, the results are often less than gratifying.” Discussing the Deep Plane Facelift, Dr. Frederick emphasizes its natural results and longevity. "You get a much more natural result. It lasts much longer. The incisions that we make heal much better." He also advocates for realistic expectations in the face of social media pressures.

His patient-centric approach has built a satisfied clientele at Nassif MD clinic.

"If you don't go into work trying to do the right thing — to do good, and to do something that's going to help the patient then it doesn't matter how good of a surgeon you are, it's not going to be good.” Beyond his professional life, Dr. Frederick values a healthy work-life balance. He keeps active with gym workouts, staying caffeinated and frequent runs in the hills of Westwood. He cherishes family traditions, especially during holidays like Christmas, enjoying time with family, and attending seasonal gatherings with friends in Beverly Hills.

Dr. Frederick's commitment to education and having an honest dialogue shapes the ethos of Nassif MD clinic. Looking ahead, he remains dedicated to hard work and continual improvement. "I think you should always continue to set goals . . . I'm very happy with where I'm now and I'm just going to keep on going to work every day and working hard."
